Yash Raj films are usually very colorful and entertaining and so is ‘Band Baaja Baraat’. The film talks about wedding planner, how to plan a wedding, what things are involved in planning a wedding, what problem arise to conduct a marriage. This entire affair drags the film forward but the main plotline of the film is how a wedding planner partner falls in love with each other. The film worked because it is quite refreshing and some new element came into forefront.
Yash Raj makes all types of film. They make multi budget films with exotic location, expensive set and huge star casts but at the same time make films which are very simple but catchy. ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ falls in the later category. The film is very simple and made with newcomer Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma who debuted with Yash Raj’s ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi with Shahrukh Khan.
‘Band Baaja Baraat’ is a new subject said in an interesting manner and grabs the interest of the audience. Shruti (Anushka Sharma) is a final year student, who is focused and determined as what she wants to become in life. She has decided that after completing college, she would run a wedding planning agency in the name ‘Shaadi Mubarak’. By chance, she stuck with Bittoo (Ranveer Singh) one day and somehow they become partner. Bittoo is just opposite to Shruti. He is a rowdy, he has promised his farmer father to prove himself in life but do not know as how to do it. Shruti has closed all means to establish relationship with Bittoo. Her theory is simple "Jisse vyapaar karo, usse kabhi na pyaar karo" [Don't mix business with pleasure]. Since it is a Bollywood film, things are bound to take place and Shruti falls for Bittoo.
Debutant director Maneesh Sharma, who worked on Fanaa, Aaja Nachle and ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ has made a very catchy debut with ‘Band Baaja Baraat’. The screenplay by Habib Faisal is very well written and depicted. He has captured the Delhi flavor and North Indian wedding very beautifully. His last film ‘Do Dooni Chaar’ is equally enchanting. The way Aseem Mishra captures the North Indian flavor is truly appreciable. The blend of Salim-Sulaiman music and Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics is truly fascinating.
Speaking about performances, Anushka Sharma has delivered a powerful performance. She has done full justice to the role. The character well suited her and she has given her best. Debutante Ranveer Singh is spontaneous, impressive, and jolly and delivered what his characters demands. He is up to the level of Anushka. Other star casts of the film, Neeraj Sood [as Maqsoodbhai], Manmeet Singh Sawhney [as Rajinder], Manish Chaudhari [as Mr. Sidhwani] are first-rate.
In the nutshell, ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ is out and out entertaining. In this wedding season, it will add tadka to the whole affair. Box office collection will be impressive and audience will get to watch a simple, light hearted movie.
