After the Youtube orchestra auditions were announced, they received lakhs of entries from all over the world. Shirish Malhotra is one of the lucky 12 finalists. The final test of the auditions will be through 'public vote’. If Shirish happens to win, he will be a part of an international symphony orchestra which will be conducted by none other than renowned orchestra conductor - Michael Tilson Thomas.
Shirish says, “For the auditions I had to play ‘Mozart Concerto in D’ and some other challenging orchestral excerpts on flute and submit a video of the same.” He adds, “Those of us who bag the highest number of votes will get together to form an orchestra and perform in a huge show in Sydney. This is an important platform for me as it will give me an international exposure.”
Shirish has been playing the flute for the last 9 years. Largely a self learner, his method is unique and interesting. He explains, “I don’t have a permanent teacher. I request visiting flautists and international artists to listen to me playing and ask for feedback. I work on their guidance and work very hard to better myself.”
Will Shirish Malhotra make it?
This management student from St. Xaviers College, has been a part of the Symphony Orchestra of India, Bombay Chambers Orchestra. And was also a visiting artist of Sri Lankan orchestra. He has received full scholarship to attend master classes in Austria and China.”
Shirish says, “All I need now are votes. I have stiff competition from teachers and professionals from Argentina, China, Germany and other countries. I want to win this one for myself and my countries so please do vote for me.”
