Bono turns down Oprah Winfrey's TV show offer

Oprah Winfrey's offer to kick start U2 frontman Bono's TV career with a show on her soon to be launched network, was turned down by the rocker.

The media mogul had invited the music icon to join the ranks of celebrity presenters on her new network, because she was convinced his philanthropy work would make for good TV, reported New York Times.

The TV titan will launch OWN, Oprah Winfrey Network, next year and she's recruited a long list of stars to host their own talk shows, including Jenny McCarthy, Rosie O'Donnell and Ryan and Tatum O'Neal. Hollywood actors including Julia Roberts, Forest Whitaker and Goldie Hawn too will develop their own documentaries for the network.

Winfrey even approached Bono with the idea of his own TV show, although he declined.

"I asked Bono, 'Would you like a TV show?' I look at everything now through the prism of, 'This could make a very good TV show!," said the 56-year-old.

She will launch OWN after hosting the cult hit The Oprah Winfrey Show for 25 years.
